The dead cannot cry out for justice; it is a duty of the living to do so for them. Lois McMaster BujoldThis memorial website was created by Ryan's friends to remember our dearest Ryan M Olsen who was born in Pequanock, New Jersey on January 8, 1986 and passed away on August 2, 2008. Ryan wasn't anyone’s Ryan. He was everyone’s Ryan. Most consider him Mr. Vernon and he was. He spent most of his life in Vernon, or making waves in Lake Wallkill. A lake community, which will never be the same without the laughs of Ryan. He was an avid swimmer which most people remember him by. The All American Athlete, that flooded local papers with his astonishing records. Ryan was always humble but we all know he was the one of the best athletes that went through Vernon. He learned how to swim at a very young age and never stopped. He swam with Aqua Gems in Warwick, N.Y. He enjoyed many things in life some say golf, fishing, and he always loved the outdoors. He loved his Mustang Sally which was always in the shop. But most importantly he loved his family and friends. "His attitude in life was uplifting and caring; he was very much a joy to be around." Daniel Beirne. Ryan’s life, cut short at 22, was filled with tons of laughter and happiness. Putting together collages for Ryan’s wake only caused giggles from his friends and family as we remembered all the good times. Going through all of the photos we realized there was never one of Ryan frowning. Actually none of us could think of anytime that Ryan did frown. Ryan’s wake and funeral were the biggest turnout at Ferguson’s Funeral Home that they have ever seen. Most of us weren’t surprised. Ryan was loved and loved by many. As the time goes by the things that got me through was watching his friends and family laugh about the stories, ALL of the stories we had with Ryan. Each and every person that walked through that door to say there last goodbye also had there stories. Ryan our memories with you will always live on. Take care of your Family and Friends we need your laughter to live among us forever. You will be missed but never forgotten.
I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an after glow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun
of happy memories
that I leave when life is done.
So light a candle, share a memory, share pictures or video, tell a story. In the memory of our Ryan.
